Thank you Betty for sharing this touching Thai Commercial with me! It is worth a watch!

When I was babysitting last night, my neighbour Helena and I put our chalk-drawing-skills to good use by leaving encouraging messages on the road for our other neighbours to see. Great work Helena! Maybe this is something the kids in your neighbourhood would enjoy doing? All it requires is chalk and a sidewalk! Special thanks to the grade 4 and 5 students at Giles Campus French Immersion school for letting me come into your class and share what I learned about kindness! I was so excited to hear your ideas on how you can spread kindness in your community and I can't wait to hear all about the actions you take!
If you are on social media, you may have already seen this before, but I jsut saw it today. www.break.com, a site that usually features videos of pranks played on unsuspecting people, starting something pretty cool with #PrankitFWD. Instead of their usual pranks, they altered them to make someone's day a little nicer and they are encouraging others to do the same. Check out one of their pranks here: The best part about it? For the month of April, BREAK will be donating money to a charity for each view they get.
Check out one of their videos, and maybe it will inspire you to Prank it forward and make someone's day a little nicer too! Remember, making someone's day a little nicer doesn't have to involve money. :) Well, it turns out I have been forgetting an important step in the upkeep of my website - pressing "publish" after making updates! (If you are a little technologically illiterate like me, this means the public has not been able to see all the changes I have been making) Well, I think that has all been taken care of now......hopefully.......
As a part of my biology project, we are required to prepare an oral presentation about what we have learned since the beginning of the year. I have been watching a variety of different types of presentations (both live and recorded on YouTube) and keeping notes on what works and what doesn't work. Here's are some of the things I cam up with:
That's it for now, keep checking back to see what else I have learned! A story advertised on the front page of today's Windsor Star caught my attention as I walked past it on the kitchen table after school. Local Windsor crafters are putting their knitting and chrocheting skills to good use as they make hats and scarves to leave around the downtown are for people stuck in the cold with nothing warm to wear. What a great way to share your talents with others, especially with the frigid temperatures we have been having recently. Take a look at the article for yourself here.
Boy, January has flown by so quickly! It feels like New Year's Day was just yesterday. I haven't updated this site in a while so here is what I am working on at the moment if you are interested.
Today my entire class had the opportunity to share our project ideas with each other and visiting teachers. Each group made a presentation board describing what they are working on and had a presenter ready to answer questions. We gathered in the library at lunch to set up our projects and take a quick peek at what others are working on. One of my favourite projects was one by someone working on her own, just like me. She is making clay hearts (they look so real!) and is selling them to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Check out her site here. It is so cool how she is using her talents to make a positive impact in our community! Some other topics included research on cancer diagnostic and treatment options, a study on cystic fibrosis and research into different types of food consumption.
Throughout the period, my classmates and visiting teachers asked me numerous questions. Everything went well, but it would have been easier if we had more time and weren't so close together. Thirty-four minutes flew by way too fast. Overall, it was quite a successful day. Earlier this week I read a great newspaper article about a way a local business owner is helping others. (here is a link to the windsor star if you want to check it out). They are offering (yes, it is on their menu) a suspended coffee. Anyone can go in and purchase an extra hot beverage and it will wait on the coffee shop's tab until someone unable to pay for a drink walks in and asks for it. This all started in Naples, Italy with the caffe sospeso (yes, I am Italian...but I am NOT being biased - you will have to agree with me on this one, this is a really cool idea). Someone up on their luck would purchase an extra drink or two to brighten up a stranger's day. It has now turned into a whole movement with coffee shops all over the world offering it on their menu. Check out the action on facebook here, or take a look right at the website. What a great way to make someone's day a little happier and warmer. Nancy Tessier, owner of the Mashup Kaffe (Wakerville) was featured in the Windsor Star article. Visit them or encourage your favourite coffee shop to give it a try! |
